Why is WashU overrated?

<p>I recently looked at the overrated/underrated colleges thread and saw WashU was mentioned at least 3 times for being overrated on the first page alone. I was always under the impression it was a a very good school, so why the bad rep on CC?</p>

<p>It lacks the outstanding faculty of most other highly ranked schools and the name/prestige of the others.</p>

<p>Other than regional bias or personal bugaboos, I don’t see any reason to say Washu is “overrated.” It’s actually rated about right, give or take a spot or two.</p>

<p>This annual study shows that WUSTL’s faculty is as outstanding as that of other similarly ranked private research universities. Note the figures for National Academy members and faculty awards. (page 12 for private university data.)</p>

<p>I was one of the people who was on that thread. And I’m deeply sorry. I shouldn’t have even responded to that kind of thread. I gave in to temptations, although I did respond not personally, but what I saw going on in CC.
Don’t let those threads discourage you.</p>

<p>I don’t believe any university is overrated or underrated (though Berkeley is an interesting mystery in my mind). WashU is a great school.

<p>If anything Wash U is, in my opinion, UNDERRATED. (I would put Rice in this same category of an underrated, under the radar, institution.)</p>

<p>^Pretty much all non-HYPSM universities are underrated in these threads. Someone needs to knock some sense that these aren’t universities that guarantee a one-way ticket to success…</p>
