Hi all you Amherst students or knowledgeable parents. If all of the colleges and GCs say it is very important to stay overnight on campus, meet the kids, eat in cafes, see a class etc. why on earth does Amherst not have such a progam? When I recently emailed the admin office they responded that there is no "official"overnight program and that “if” I knew a student I could arrange a visit with that person. That really sucks. Amherst is my current first choice for possible ED next year and I really want to stay over but know nobody. I did a tour and info session but that gave me only a taste of life on campus rather than seeing the real thing. Hey Evita maybe you can convince your daughter to let me room with her overnight. She and I have alot in common based upon the postings I have read from you.(only partly kidding). Can someone give me insight on this problem and offer a suggestion or two? Thank you all as always. Dana

Really? Because I've hosted a bunch of prefrosh last semester, and the admissions office just sent out another email asking for volunteers. I don't know how they arrange it. I would talk to some admissions fellows, John Quigley '04 or Julian Michael '04 or Darren Reaume '02. PM me for their emails. My roommate and I would also be willing to host.

D was requested by admissions to host someone for an overnight this year, but the person never showed up, so she isn't averse to the idea. Allure, check with her, will you? Or if you host her, she will loan you the air bed. If you stay with allure, you will meet my D - she lives on the same floor.

Hello Evita and thank you for your reply to my daughter's thread on overnight visits. My daughter Dana is very excited about applying to Amherst for the class entering in the fall of 2007. However as she indicated an overnight stay is critical to her decision on whether to apply there or elsewhere early decision. Our entire family would really love for her to stay with any great kids like your daughter or Allure. Perhaps if this is something Allure or your daughter would give the green light to my daughter Dana could IM the girls to set the plan in motion later this year. I continue to wonder if the Admission office only arranges overnights for kids they have a special interest in.

Evita my kid is in love with a number of lacs and is trying to decide on her top choices. Dana , her mom and I thank you, your daughter and Allure for your kindness. Dana's Dad

I'm Evita's daughter, and I live on allure's floor. Whenever you want to come, you have a place here.

Ooh. Also to add to that, I believe that if you are a senior they will place you with a host. In fact, there are special overnight programs that you can apply to as a senior. But that is only speculation.

Victoria you and Laurel are just the best. What great gestures of friendship to a stranger. I will absolutely take you both up on your hosting offers. By the end of the semester I will try to remember to get both of your emails so during the summer I can get a good Thursday or Sunday night that is good for you guys. It would be cool if you are living in Spanish House as I will be taking AP Spanish next year.

Boy Laurel's post about the massive number of applications this year is the worst. Too much competition. I will have to ace my April SATs. I hope I do as well as my PSATs where I got 99th%. I promise I will never as send you one of those what are my chances post. However maybe I can get some insider application strategies from you guys.

THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR BEING SO WARM AND GENEROUS. Best regards, Dana
