Any reason a current student, former student, student parent, or somebody who knows the school particularly well can think of!

My S did not apply to Yale although he had a great visit there. He found that in his field, Yale was not as strong as H. He also preferred to be in a bigger and more exciting city than New Haven. He's decided he likes the Harvard residential system better as you can choose those who will be your blockmates after getting to know them for nearly one year.

All these are specific to him, and others might prefer Yale.

Because I go there. And that means moar lulz.

If a student has significant assets in his or her own name, H will be much more generous with aid than Y. And the access to Boston is a wonderful thing. But honestly - there's no such thing as a wrong choice between the two.

each person should visit both and see which they like better.

Yale is much more liberal. I did not apply for this reason. Not to say Harvard isn't.

My D was deciding between H and Y. It really came down to the visits. She felt comfortable at H immediately. When she arrived at Y, she did not feel the same, but after 2 days there, she said she loved it too, and would be happy at either one. She ultimately chose H because of Cambridge/Boston.

location

you're not a humanities major or you still care about the sciences

safety

nearby colleges/cross-registering

So they don't take my spot at Yale! ;)

Some consider CT a boring place. That's why some refer to it as only being a highway between NYC and Boston.

Harvard's math department!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

@DocT: that's like how NJ is just a highway between NYC and Philly, lmao

also another reason to come here is WE GO HARD IN HARVARD

I find this silly, but to each his own. <3

who would ever want to go to Harvard: where fun goes to die...

Architecture preference. Georgian > Gothic.

(Yeah I'm sure those aren't exactly correct, but you know what I mean.)

Well, PERSONALITY-wise, I agree, Yale is more liberal. But politically? I hope you're joking.

^^Would you explain? I don't understand what you are saying?

Merkalicious, you are NOT serious, are you?

Proximity to MIT.
