Why Swarthmore?

Hey guys,

I am writing my "Why Swarthmore" essay and I am wondering if I should make it
an essay of listing specific reasons or details why i want to attend Swarthmore.

I sort of wrote it more in a subtle way of showing why I want to be at Swarthmore.

What do you think?

No one can really tell you how to write your college essays - if it seems like it sounds good and is convincing and unique, you're probably in good shape. Not everyone writes an essay - one of my best friends drew her Why Swarthmore - so no one would tell you to write a very dry piece in standard form, but certainly make sure that it actually shows why you want to be there and why you'd be a good fit! If it's too vague it might sound like it could've been written for any college...

realzakan, if you had an opportunity to visit Swat, it will probably be easier for you to write the essay. If you visited, pick out a couple of things -a class you went to and enjoyed, an event, a student you met. If you haven't visited, perhaps you've really studied the web site and listened to the student interviews. They will absolutely know if this is a "recycled" essay being used for multiple colleges.

You can write your essay any way you want, just make sure it gets across to the best of your ability why you want to go. Also, I don't think it's necessarily bad to use a Why essay that you've used for other colleges. I applied to Swarthmore, UChicago, and Reed for pretty much the same reasons, so since my Why UChicago essay contains everything I want to get across to Swarthmore as well, why not just use it for Swarthmore?

Really, I think your WhySwat essay is to convey your passion for the school in whichever way you choose. Admissions'll appreciate it regardless, I think.

Thank you everyone, I decided to stick with this essay and then improve it a lot.

Since I am applying via Early Decision, the essay is orginally written for SWARTHMORE.
