That’s shocking aswell. Did other people from your school get in? @beczhou
@Tkat97 I am sorry you are upset.
I am surprised as well you got a WL. I do not know if NEU is doing this but I have heard chatter that a lot of schools are going to be using the WL a lot more this year. I hope NEU is not one of them but who knows.
You are an excellent applicant and will have many fine choices. If you decide you want NEU after your decisions are all in let them know.
If this is more a blow to your ego I understand that too-we’ve been there too.
Is this a school you considered a safety with no real interest in attending? I think that may come across in applications but again I can only speculate.
Sorry @Tkat97 , it is very frustrating. The really frustrating part is that sometimes there is no reason, and you don’t have any control over it. Add to your misery by realizing that many accepted students will choose to go elsewhere. By the numbers, NEU and most higher end universities, will reject many more qualified applicants than they accept. Some of this is a holistic decision making process and some of it is almost whimsical. Admissions officers at some point need to whittle down their stack of applicants and many people who could be successful, interesting, contributing members of the student body get put into the “no” pile. Capable, accomplished kids from the northeast are plentiful and can begin to look very similar to one another. You won’t ever know. In a couple of weeks you will have many more responses and can put your energies into moving forward. In the meantime find something to distract you. Let yourself do something fun, dumb, “unproductive” even, but get off of CC for a couple of weeks or you will go crazy.
You already have wonderful choices and I know there are more to come. All the best to you!
@pepper03 @saskatchewan yes, it was a safety school in a sense, however; I don’t understand how that could’ve come through on my application, for there were no supplements!
You have very good stats. Do not despair. Last year my daughter was watlisted at Holy Cross and Bates but accepted to BC and Cornell. the process doesn’t make sense in many cases.Contact your counselor. Good luck.
Thank you for the encouragement @arctoarcturas
@Tkat97 Please take a look at this article. I think it says it quite nicely and should be ‘required reading’ for any student and parent applying to a range of colleges

Thank you…I just posted this on Facebook for others to read and as a reminder to myself!
I believe it’s your math SAT score that hurt you. NEU doesn’t count the writing score so it was really important to pull that math score up to a 700. Maybe your friends who got in, although they had a lower combined SAT score, had a two-part score closer to 1400+. Congratulations on your acceptances and best wishes.
Hello everyone, I thought I would update this. I was accepted to BU today with a 41k scholarship. Thank you everyone for your support.
Oh @tkat97 that is superb news!!!
Congrats @Tkat97 that is truly amazing, this admissions game is crazy.
Thanks so much @ormdad and @southernhope
Funny that BU chants “safety school” at us when this happens…
At the last beanpot they chanted that at us, and we chanted it right back at them. But really, neither of them is a safety school at this point.
At the last hockey game in Matthews against BU this year, they chanted safety school quite a bit. Honestly, it’s pretty embarrassing for them considering we’re ranked exactly the same…if we’re a safety school, and we’re ranked the same, what does that make them? LOL. I know neither are safeties at this point, but BU is feeling the heat of NU about to surpass them for sure.
@Tkat97, I was rooting for you. Congratulations on that fantastic BU scholarship!
I still don’t get why NEU waitlisted me. Whatever I guess.
Tine to move on.
Thank you!! @Putterer
