Northeastern Class of 2020 Waitlist Thread

Hi guys! I just got my admissions decision from NEU, and I was waitlisted. I’m a bit shellshocked- NEU is my top choice, and after being deferred from the EA pool, this feels a bit like being put down twice.

Here’s my stats, if anyone is interested-
Undergrad School- School of Engineering
GPA- 3.6ish UW, 3.9ish W
ACT- 33 Composite
EC’s- Fantastic
Recommendations- I don’t have any to compare mine to, but they were generally glowing.
Essays- Really good. I thought they were a strong part of my app.

So there’s my stuff. Feel free to post your profile too, if you also got waitlisted. I have a few questions-

-Does anyone know how many people got waitlisted last year/this year?

-What are my chances for actually being offered admission? Does anyone know percentages?

-How does the process work? I confirmed my spot on the waitlist as soon as I saw the decision- does this mean I’m more likely to be offered a spot?

-How does being waitlisted in general work? If i’m hearing from NEU after the national deposit reply date, do I reply to another school? (This question I’ll obviously be doing my own research on, but I’d love some input)

There doesn’t seem to be published info on wait lists at NU. Anecdotally, on the forums in past years there does not seem to be much movement. You have confirmed your interest on the wait list. If it is still your number one choice it wouldn’t hurt to let the admission rep for your region know that, or update with any new awards or honors.
Other than that the general advice is to move on, deposit at a school that accepted you and get excited about that school. There are many fabulous schools in the U.S. Buy the Tshirt.

That’s tough, and I guess it does feel like a double-whammy. Sorry. Sometimes the major for which you apply can affect your chances. While a 33 ACT is commendable, there might have been lots of 34’s, 35’s, and 36’s in the engineering pool. Especially with 50,000+ applications. No doubt you will have many other appealing options, though, with a score like that. Wish you the best.

Quick question: Will they notify you once all the spots that can be filled by waitlisted applicants are filled and there is no longer any chance to be admitted?

I am in pretty much the same boat as you. 3.8W, 32 ACT, EC and recs are good, and I applied EA engineering only to be deferred and wait listed.

just got into the NU in program

I got off the waitlist on May 3rd, into the Computer Science program at CCIS for the fall. 32 ACT, 3.8 GPA. Applied EA and was deferred and was then waitlisted in the RD pool.

Anyone else who still hasn’t heard back?

I haven’t heard back yet either and I’m not really expecting to at this point.
