Why the Ivies, Stanford, and MIT are Different from Other Top Schools

Which University was the developing spot of the Atomic Bomb and also has the most respected Economics department in the World? University of Chicago. </p>

<p>The list goes on and on. Are the Ivies great? Sure! but outside of HYP, schools like Duke, Uchicago, JHU, etc, often trump and/or are equal in terms of prestige, accomplishments and academic prowess.

<p>Actually, the atomic bomb project was started at Columbia (hence the codename “Manhattan Project”). There are still some (slightly radioactive) cyclotrons underneath the campus.</p>

<p>And while we’re at WWII inventions, the first computer was built at Harvard or Penn, depending on whether you count the Harvard Mark I or ENIAC as a computer.</p>
