Anyone have any comments on do's and don'ts for this part of the application (other than the obvious don't-write-a-generic-one-and-substitute-college-names-into-it one?).

I'm applying RD, and I'm just wondering if what I've written is approximately on track.

Thanks!

Mine wasn't a fabulous essay. Looking back at it, it seemed to me that I could have written something so much better. However, I think it's the idea of it that counted. I shared a conversation I had with a friend who decided to go to Wellesley, about our discussion of going to a women's college.

As long as you give a real personal reason about your desire to go to Wellesley then I'm sure your essay should be fine. Try to be as specific as possible.

Good luck!

Okay, good, I'm glad you included that bit about your conversation with a friend. Mine's partly about a schoolmate from last year who went to Wellesley. She found out that I was looking at Wellesley and came up to me in the hall several times to talk it up. :) Of course, I also put in reasons as to why I love Wellesley myself, but some of it was about this other person.
