Why would college park deny 4.0 transfer?

Why would college park deny an in state applicant with 50 credits and 4.0 GPA?!

Have you completed your English and math pre reqs?

YES!! INCLUDING CALCULUS 2 AND LINEAR ALGEBRA AND COLLEGE COMPOSITION.

Clearly, there is more to your story. Maryland considers more than a single factor (no matter how good that single factor is) in the admissions process, so the only way to know the answer to your question is for u to call admissions and ask.

There is nothing more to my story.
I am 4.0 50 credits in-state transfer, no remedial classes, all college level coursework.
I called to admissions and all they said : “we encourage you to apply again next semester” and when I asked why I was denied (the second time) all they said was “admissions is very competitive”.

Should I apply again for the third time or should I enroll in another university?

A 4.0 is an extremely impressive gpa, and you should take pride in your accomplishment. However, you need to understand that Maryland considers many different aspects of an applicant, not just gpa – that is what I meant by “more to your story”…they look at many things including your essays, letters of recommendation, etc.

I believe that your old thread will explain it:

How exactly does it explain it? Yes, I have a GED, but after 30 college credits they don’t look at high school transcripts. So, it doesn’t explain anything.

You should talk to a transfer advisor at your community college. They could go over your application, essay, and transcript and tell you your strengths and weaknesses. They could also help you find some safety schools so that you wind up somewhere.

There could be something “wrong,” or you could just be applying to a very competitive major where few transfer students are accepted. In any case, the college you are applying to will rarely tell you anything specific about why you were rejected. However, an advisor that has seen multiple people applying to the same place and getting in or not may have some insight.
