Why Yale?

The 'Why Yale' supplement asks for 'something in particular about Yale that drew you to Yale'. Does it mean I must talk about only the one thing that drew me or I can talk about a bunch of stuff?

Bump…

My recollection, from last year, is that the word limit was pretty low, which would police it somewhat. Additionally, I would tend to take the prompt at its word when it asks for “something in particular.” I guess that could be a particular attribute of Yale’s that is evidenced in more than one way, but I don’t think a laundry list is what they’re looking for.

The word limit is low(100 words). I get what you’re saying, Thanks!

bump!..or should I close this thread and open a similar one in the college essays section?

@seanninsing‌ , is there “something in particular” that you’re hoping to find out in this thread? You have bumped twice.

I am sorry if this comes off rude, but if you can’t come up with a 100 word response specific to a school, you shouldn’t apply to that sschool.

oh…don’t misunderstand my question…i just meant to ask if you could fit more that one reason into the 100 words. I bumped twice because I wanted more views. @GA2012MOM, it didnt come off as rude, and I already have my reason to want to go to Yale. thanks guys!

IMHO, an applicant is better off enumerating the multiple reasons why Yale, rather than focusing on just one reason. Applicants who do their due diligence on the school, should be able to come up with at least one specific academic reason, one specific extracurricular reason, and one specific campus related reason and still manage to get the whole thing done within the word limit.

I enumerated multiple reasons on my application IIRC. I think I hit res colleges, a couple specific departments/professors, and a couple specific ECs. Actually it’s crazy that I fit that all in, I can’t remember how I did it. (current Yale student)

@GA2012MOM - if you are going to make a statement that you realize might be rude, it would be really helpful if you make sure you understand the post and get your spelling right.

P.S I hope this doesn’t come across as rude :-*

I don’t think it matters if you list one thing or several; what matters is that your answer is thoughtful and well-expressed, and that you identify something that is actually distinctive about Yale.

okay. Thank you all!

Would anyone here be willing to read my why yale supplement? It’s quite general, but it’s honest so I’m not sure.
