With all of the negative comments that I have said about AU I feel that it is time I make a case about all of the positive things I have experienced here. First, this school is incredibly strong in the areas of Political Science and International Affairs. If you are interested in working in or around DC in something that concerns either of these two fields then I think its something that you probably can’t pass up(especially if they are giving you money). I would say that once you get here, if you do decide to come, immediately put your resume out there to find a job in the city. It will give you a good feel for the place early on and hopefully will allow you to develop a future network.

I also want to comment on the quality of the professors at AU. I feel that many of the professors in International Affairs and Political Science here are very underrated. Many of these people are adjuncts, but they really should be tenured. They all seemingly have top degrees and a ridiculous level of experience in the world. For instance I know a professor here who was one of the first 50 Americans to visit China when Deng Xiaoping opened up(thats unreal). In addition, the small classes make them approachable for office hours allowing you to build good bonds with people in the department. I’m not saying all of the professors are good, but I think the majority are very good and extremely well qualified.

The last thing I think this place has to offer and should be a reason why you consider is its location in DC. This allows you to get a feel for the city right away and pursue what you want to do immediately. The one reason why I didn’t go to my state school is because the student body just really couldn’t find any jobs. That is not a problem here. In addition, the night life here is pretty incredible. You have college students from UDC,GW,GU,AU, and Maryland all going to the same clubs and this allows you to network outside of AU(that is if you like to dance/drink).

I hope people will read this and weigh the positives here with the negatives I posted in the other thread to make a well informed decision.
