Why you should come here

With all of the negative comments that I have said about AU I feel that it is time I make a case about all of the positive things I have experienced here. First, this school is incredibly strong in the areas of Political Science and International Affairs. If you are interested in working in or around DC in something that concerns either of these two fields then I think its something that you probably can’t pass up(especially if they are giving you money). I would say that once you get here, if you do decide to come, immediately put your resume out there to find a job in the city. It will give you a good feel for the place early on and hopefully will allow you to develop a future network.

I also want to comment on the quality of the professors at AU. I feel that many of the professors in International Affairs and Political Science here are very underrated. Many of these people are adjuncts, but they really should be tenured. They all seemingly have top degrees and a ridiculous level of experience in the world. For instance I know a professor here who was one of the first 50 Americans to visit China when Deng Xiaoping opened up(thats unreal). In addition, the small classes make them approachable for office hours allowing you to build good bonds with people in the department. I’m not saying all of the professors are good, but I think the majority are very good and extremely well qualified.

The last thing I think this place has to offer and should be a reason why you consider is its location in DC. This allows you to get a feel for the city right away and pursue what you want to do immediately. The one reason why I didn’t go to my state school is because the student body just really couldn’t find any jobs. That is not a problem here. In addition, the night life here is pretty incredible. You have college students from UDC,GW,GU,AU, and Maryland all going to the same clubs and this allows you to network outside of AU(that is if you like to dance/drink).

I hope people will read this and weigh the positives here with the negatives I posted in the other thread to make a well informed decision.

ryan,
i'm speechless by your miserable assaults upon AU! WHY ARE YOU THERE? it's the best kept secret in DC! it's applications are rising, while your beloved GW is decreasing. (maybe people are realizing a $60,000 price only gets them a glitzey website, and inferior academics!)awesome academics, beauty, an actual city campus and DC......what's up with you????????

** i'm new at this, so i want to clarify that i'm responding to the NUMEROUS, and inaccurate things you've previously said about AU, prior to this one ,feeble attempt to sound positive! if you're still there, then surely you 've missed the boat on what it had to offer you. Princeton Review puts it WAY above GW. US NEWS ranks schools heavily with votes from university presidents...THAT bit of politics is what's hurt AU, but that's changing!

ryan~ i've said this in a few places, but as i said, this is new to me...I APOLOGIZE! when i wrote you, i thought your QUOTE of CCRUNNER's was YOUR comment...so sorry! CC is WAY off base, and i hope you accept my newness at this. "miserable assaults upon AU" is meant for CCRUNNER !

My beloved GW? I think you must be mistaken. GW is perhaps the most overrated school in the nation. Please get off of me for being honest.

I appreciate your attempt to be positive ryan. Thank you. As someone who is very much on the fence about whether or not they would attend AU, that was helpful to see the positive side presented in the way you did.
