@mizzBee. she is interested in African-American sororities. However, I have been looking at alot of the PWIs and they don’t have them on campus. I think Colby banned all Greek life, don’t know what happen there.

Do you mind sharing your story of where your child ended up. You can PM if you don’t want to share in public.

Va Commonwealth? It meets most of the criteria and would be lower cost since its in-state. I hear Christopher Newport is loved by the kids… My B student is dreaming of JMU. No engineering there though. I’d definitely add VT to your list, especially if you’re not sure about engineering and can apply to arts and sciences. There are indeed engineering requirements first year but my oldest went in as engineering and quickly decided to do a BS in chemistry instead. They’re good in science in general.

JMU actually does have engineering ( [Department of Engineering at James Madison University](http://www.jmu.edu/engineering/index.html) ). Unlike some other schools you are not required to apply specifically to engineering. The program started in 2008 and is eligible for ABET accreditation this year (2012). It is a broad based engineering curriculum with an emphasis on sustainability. It does not have separate majors such a mechanical or chemical.

Denison is a great school but still 30-45 minutes from a city (Columbus). Denison gives LOTS of merit and financial aid to kids they want. I think Wooster and Denison will both offer free apps in the fall if you apply early (they did to S last year), and both are common app schools without additional essays so you might keep both :)
