Hey guys, Im a rising senior and will be applying to Colleges this december/january. I had a question. I work as a financial analyst intern for a 8 million dollar company and I can get a letter of recommendation from the CEO because he knows me very well and so do the Board of Directors, I can also get letters of recommendations from them. In addition, I don't want to give out the name, but this man who is the President of the Fellowship of Yale will interview me and he said he would get me in. My dream colleges are Stern and Yale. Will these letters help? I just want to know if they will help to impress the adcoms and by how much. Thank you!

Yes, it is certainly an advantage. Interning is a smart idea…I wish I had done it BEFORE applying to colleges.

Unless you worked directly under the CEO’s supervision (unlikely) or any of the individual Board members (also unlikely), what they say to you will be nothing but empty niceties. Colleges want to evaluate actual and continued observed instances of leadership, scholarly achievement and initiative. The rec letter is about YOU and not the person who writes it. They won’t impress anyone. A first year teacher, who knows your work intimately, is likely able to write a more meaningful rec letter than some corporate officer whom you exchange nice words with occasionally during a summer stint.
