I’ve been told a lot that being in the schools bagpipe band helps get into ND, just wondering if this is true. If so is it possible to get scholarships etc from playing the pipes as it is a very big thing at ND. Thanks

Not a hook. No scholarships that I know of. Won’t get you in if rest of application not up to par. At best an interesting EC.
Unless ND is specifically looking for a bagpipe player it is not a hook, but an interesting/unique EC. Very few things are hooks which would make a college specifically want you over others with similar stats.
Agree with above-I’m always interested and slightly surprised at the number of bagpipers at ND! Awesome activity, but funny enough, you are not alone! GREAT EC and would stress it as you can, but likely not a hook and pretty sure no scholarships for it 
There are a number of colleges that do offer scholarships for pipers, but Notre Dame doesn’t appear to be one of them. However, because ND has a pipe band, it might be helpful in admissions there.
