Many of us committed to schools sight unseen, and without the mass media options of virtual tours or google maps.
Both my kids committed to schools after less than ideal first visits. One arrived on a Saturday afternoon afternoon, went on a trolley tour with 4 other families (‘over there are the freshmen dorms, over there is the admissions building’). There was a big high school Robotics event going on so while there was activity, it wasn’t the college students. Sunday morning she had a meeting with the coach. Book store closed on weekends, all admissions people off on weekends, no classes to observe.
My other daughter had a big open house weekend planned. We headed there (about 2 hour drive) on a Friday but flooding had closed many roads and it took us 6+ hours to get there. She missed the interviews with departments, the tours, the lunch. The next day we went on a group tour and to a football game - in the rain. She never saw a class, never met other students.
IT WAS FINE.
