750 english 680 math
Im an intended humanities major and in my app I’ve made that very clear (i talk about my passion for history in my personal statement). Ive also taken almost every math course in my school with four As and 3 Bs (my only Bs in all HS).
Im aware the SAT is only one factor in holistic admissions but I’m wondering if sending in my score will do more harm than good since it is bellow average bc of my math score.
What do you mean by “top colleges?” Given that most have gone test-optional, I’d say don’t send the score if it’s below the average for the specific college you’re applying to. Google the common data set for the colleges you’re interested in, and see what the average SAT score and GPA is. It will also show you a chart as to what they value most in an applicant. Best of luck to you!
Your other thread was posted under Harvard. You’ve got to let us know if you’ve expanded this to less competitive top colleges.
The 680 might not hurt a humanities kid as much, esp considering the 750. They’ll note the Cambridge work (and your enthusiasm comes through nicely in the other thread.} But you’ll have to find a way to make the most of the rest of it. See if you can tap into that enthusiasm in the essay and any short answers. Remember, “Show, not just tell.” (For the essay, it means a narrative that the reader can naturally follow and get your points, some examples.)
Find a way to let this and the drama experiences come to life. Try to get your LoR writers to note more than a routine “was in my class, did the work,” etc.
My D had similar lopsided scores, a decision to make, for a TO. If you’re applying RD, you have time to polish your approach. I don’t tell kids to just throw caution to the wind and just apply. I believe it pays off to learn what you can about the college, it’s opportunities and what they like. Then you can give it your best try- and will always know you did.
Best wishes.
