I go to a big public high school in Gwinnett that is known to be one of the best public high schools in the county that is one of the best counties in Georgia. It sends about 30 kids out its 850 students per class a year. Will that help my chances? The idea here is that maybe they like students from high schools that they are familiar with since they know the rigor of that high school.

My son is starting GT in the fall and goes to a public high school in Fayette County which is also known to be one of the higher ranked counties in Georgia. It sends over 15 kids a year to GT out of a class 360 or so. I think it does help when Georgia Tech knows the rigor of the high school and how kids at a high school do at Georgia Tech. However you still need to have the GPA and test scores.:)

Unfortunately Tech doesnt look at what high school students attend when they make a decision on a student. They only look at GPA, test scores, Extracurriculars, and the essay. Tech has an army of admission counselors(like every big school) that focus on a specific geographic region that they get to know really well and work with through the admissions process from year to year. So the admission counselors get to know the rigor of curriculum at all their schools really well :)

GTJacket, since Tech’s admission is represented by the admission counselors, and they are specific to certain regions and they know the rigor of schools, then shouldn’t Tech, by the Transitive Property, also know the rigor of the schools?

Based on this list, my school is one of the top five largest sources of entering freshmen for GT.
