Will having one free period in my senior year affect my chances of getting into a good college?

When I get back to school next month, I'm going to be a senior. I wanted to know if having a free period affects my chances of getting into a good college. Some of my friends say it does and some say it does not. I'm planning to take just 2 AP classes and the rest are regular classes. Would ONE free period affect my chances?

I wanna major in nursing and my counselor told me I already took all the courses relating to that.
Right now, I want to try getting into the University of Miami which is apparently a private college.

If the rest of your schedule is rigorous, then taking off one period senior year won’t affect your chances - plenty of seniors do that and are just fine. Note the qualifier - “If the rest of your schedule is rigorous”. That’s key. Two APs and the rest regular might be rigorous for your school or it might be lacking, you’ll have to give us a bit more context like what is your exact schedule and what else is available.

Off the top of my head, for a school like Miami, you might be a bit light in the rigor department, but if you are, you’re probably only one course off and it’s possible for your school, there really is nothing else available. It really depends on what your other stats are. And I’d consider that if you’re going into nursing, I don’t really know that paying a premium for Miami over a state flagship is worth the investment - but I could be misinformed about that.

My sons’ private school usually required that students have a free period, so that they could hold individual consultations with teachers.
