Will I be able to Transfer to Harvard?(Do I have any chance?)

Hi, I request everyone to read this carefully before answering anything. I am currently an International student in the United States. I feel very bad saying this but I don’t have a very High SAT score. To say exactly, my SAT score is 1580 out of 2400. This was my first and last SAT score. As I am from one of the poor Asian countries, my parents didn’t give me a second chance because it would be very expensive to them to do so. My only chance of attaining United States Education was through the college I am currently attaining because I was offered a good scholarship through music(I play the guitar). At my current University, I am a Computer Science major. Currently, I am a freshman and hope to transfer in the second semester of my sophomore year. My reasons for transfer are: (1) I don’t feel academically challenged( Just because I have a low SAT doesn’t mean I can;t handle stress.) (2) The college doesn’t have a strong Alumni network and also does not have any contacts to provide internship opportunities for its students. I don’t know why, but after a lot of college search Harvard just looked like the perfect fit for me(I know this sounds funny, cause every student in this world wants to get into Harvard and think Harvard is the perfect fit for them). I don’t want to go to Harvard just because of the name, but because of the resources, it provides to its students. Resources like good financial aid, especially for students with a poor economic background like me.( parents roughly have a combined income of 4000$ a year… yes a YEAR :o). I want to be surrounded by creative minds. I don’t know what to say next because I am really depressed at the moment. Please read my facts and tell me whether I have any chance of transferring to Harvard.

SAT- old version attended 2015 score(1580). Do you think I should reappear for the SAT?
1st semester took 18 credit hour. This semester I am taking only 15 credit hours, but I am taking difficult classes(mostly Maths and Programming). Next semester I will be taking honors on top of 18 credit hours that will be 21 credit hours.
I am looking for internships for the next summer, but as I told you my college doesn’t help me find good internships so I am looking independently(I hope I find one). Currently, I have a 3.8 GPA I hope to boost it to 3.89 or 3.9 by the end of the next semester. I am in the Jazz Band(I play the guitar). I am an autodidact guitar player. I think I am good enough or else the college I am currently in would not be giving me a huge money for it right?( if you guys want I can send you the video I have prepared as a musical supplement for Harvard). I am the part of the Enactus. I also ran to be the president of the ACM(Association for Computing and Machinery) club of my university but I lost, as I was a Freshman and no one knew me well. I don’t know what to say next. Please tell me what can I do to make it to Harvard. talking about my background I am from a poor country whose GDP is 650$ a year. I consider myself to be a very lucky person who happened to get a good education by chance, or else I wouldn’t even have made it till here. My school did not offer any AP courses so I haven’t taken any. Also, I have not taken the SAT Subject Test(s).

With a 1580/2400 SAT you have absolutely no chance to be accepted as a transfer applicant absent some truly phenomenal accomplishment. Unless you just forgot to mention the Grammy award you won with your guitar playing, or the Fields medal you won for your math research, you should focus on making the best of your current opportunity and put off any thoughts of Harvard or any similar institutions until it is time to consider grad school.

While Harvard is very attractive to you, you don’t seem to understand the level of competitiveness for its applicants. Your SAT 1580/2400 is about 1140/1600 on the new SAT. That’s very moderate and is no where close to realistic.

To give you an idea, my kid’s HS has an AVERAGE SAT of 1880/2400 or 1340/1600 – and it MIGHT have a small handful of successful applicants to the very top tier schools for regular admissions.

Harvard’s admit rate is 5% for freshmen.

Harvard’s transfer admit rate is about 1%.

You’ve got to pivot to seek out contentment at your current (and affordable) school. Seek out tougher work in your courses. Choose wisely next semester if you’re not currently challenged. Ask your current instructors for guidance. This pursuit of transferring to Harvard is not attainable, whatsoever.

You are getting an American education at what sounds like an affordable cost for your family. You can make classes harder – take more of them, work or volunteer on the side, join clubs, seek out the most difficult professors. I wouldn’t be so eager to throw this opportunity away, personally.

Be happy where you are… You have zero chance for Harvard

If you’re depressed, please go to your school’s health services center and speak with a counselor.

@Agathius You do not really have any chances for transfer to any elite US university, let alone Harvard. If you really think you cannot continue in your current university maybe try to find another school that you realistically could transfer to and you think is a better fit for you. That said I would suggest first trying to make your current place work for you and work hard at finding ways to be happy and fit in there.
