I'll be an architecture major this fall, and I've narrowed my college options down to Berkeley, Rice Uni, and USC. I know each school has its ups and downs, but I just wanted a holistic and honest response. Will I fit into Rice? I'm the kind of student who enjoys intellectual conversations, loves being involved (I'm currently in student government, sports, and a few clubs/charities in my own school), but at the same time enjoys parties, dancing, and the occasional hook up. I'm an extrovert, but I enjoy spending time by myself too. I wouldn't call myself a social climber, but I'm definitely good friends with people from all types of groups and "cliques." I'm an international student, coming from a high school of about 600 students.

P.S. Don't kill me for saying this, but are the guys at Rice cute? Obviously not basing my college decision off this, but I just wanted to know, haha.

I think it sounds like you would fit in well at Rice. There is plenty to do, and it is not overwhelmingly big. My daughter is a Rice grad, and she was involved in a campus ministry, her Residential College’s activities, muscial performances and a bunch of other things. She also liked her “down” time and found ways to get that, too. The Residential College system is good for narrowing things down- you will meet friends, have activities right there at the dorm/college, and still have other options. There are plenty of parties. She found lots of cute guys, too, and actually married someone who was a medical student across the street!

Thank you so much!! Definitely took some stress off. I think I’m going here for sure :)

I’m currently a senior in high school and am seriously considering attending Rice after being accepted. I was invited to the Visions program which was a program for underrepresented minorities and I stayed at rice for 2 days, rooming with two students. I was set on going to UT Austin originally but after attending visions my opinions completely changed. Everyone was extremely nice and welcoming and yes I saw plenty of cute guys both current and prospective students. Also, one freshman girl was telling me how there are guys that you can hook up with and then there are guys who you can date if that’s what you want. But it was a totally non-judgmental and supportive atmosphere, and the residential college system is great. It’s the type of close-knit school where, if you’re an extrovert and friendly, you’ll make plenty of friends.
