Will I get accepted into these schools?

Hello College Confidential users,

Do you think I have a chance of getting accepted?

Applying to: Exeter, Deerfield, Hotchkiss, St. Pauls, Cate, Choate

Currently a sophomore, applying to repeat

Full pay

SSAT: 92%, taking again in December

GPA: 4.27 weighted, 3.92 unweighted (1st half of the semester)

Extracurriculars: Volunteer work, tutoring, member of two clubs, junior varsity basketball, math olympiad, prospective japanese honors society member

Didn’t interview yet, essays are decent

Recommendation: Math probably pretty good, English probably okay, councilor probably not bad, sports coach probably the worst out of the 4.

Edit your essays if they are simply “decent”. These schools don’t want decent kids, they want kids who are, for a lack of a better word, awesome!! If you know that you could do better on your essays, go for it.

Your SSAT scores are already great so that won’t take you out of the running.

Your extracurriculars are great but what do you “spike” in? What are you passionate about the most?

Do well on your interviews because really boosts your chances of being admitted.

All in all, your stats are great but remember, there are hundreds of other kids with similar stats applying for the same spot, so you might not stand out very well. It all goes back to your essays. Your essays are a crucial component of the admissions process.

Also, are you an underrepresented minority? With those stats, your chances are huge.

And out or curiosity, is the reading portion of the SSAT as egregious as other people claim it to be?

Sorry for the grammar in some sentences. I forgot to proof read ?

@YoungThriver Reading was not that bad, I think Math was the hardest

@YoungThriver thank you for your advice, I’ll try my best on the essays

Try to show some leadership in Awards and ECs. Polish your essays, and find something unique about you to stress in your essays. Good Luck! Remember the old boarding school adage however if you don’t get in, “The school doesn’t make you, you make your school!”

I’m taking the SSAT for the first time in December. The reading section will be the death of me.

Short answer…maybe. Nothing you posted takes you out of the running, but you know the acceptance rates. Polish every aspect of your application, write GREAT essays and hope for the best.
