I am a senior. I have a 3.61 GPA and I got a 25 on my ACT. I want to apply to Texas A and M, and Texas Tech as well as Texas techs honors college. I'm in NHS, FFA and I've taken many ap courses and gotten either a 4 or 5. Will I get in to this colleges and honors college? Or should I go to community college?

Don’t go to CC…I recommend retaking ACT and apply to those schools.

I hope you like Texas Tech…

Texas Tech: Safety (if top-25% in-state)/Match (otherwise)
TAMU: Reach (maybe high match if a 3.61 amounts to a top-15%)

“Don’t go to CC”

CC is a great choice for many reasons and many types of students.
- From a financial perspective, CC makes much more sense than going to a 4-year and taking the same lower division classes for a much higher price
- If you want to go to a very prestigious 4-year, it is MUCH easier to get in as a transfer student than as a freshman applicant. The average GPA of transfer students admitted to 4-years is significantly lower than freshman applicants.
- You will never have a TA at a CC and the instructors there have one sole purpose: to teach (not do research). It is much easier to be the shining star student at a CC and get those wonderful letters of rec than it is right off the bat as a freshman.
- Your slate gets wiped clean when you go to CC- your HS grades, SAT scores, etc will not matter for transfer applicants.

My advice- think this through yourself and don’t listen to people who tell you “CC isn’t good enough”, etc.

What is your rank? I’m assuming you’re from Texas as well. In that case there are tons of schools you can get into (which is really cool and something I never knew about until the summer). I’m sure all of us in Texas know about the top 10% at TAMU and top 7% at UT, but many other public schools have guaranteed admission. Check them out here:
