do you think i will get one of the 2500 $2500 national merit scholarships? i just got my finalist letter today.

psat-225
highest combined sat-2300 (took it twice)
(idk if they look at subject tests but 800 mathII, 740 us hist., 740 bio m)
gpa-4.0 unweighted, taking many APs and honors
top 5% (im ranked 4/97)
actually spent time on the essay
filled up and activities/awards/leadership section on the app

what are they looking for exactly??

i really want to get the $2500 one from national merit because none of my first choices are on the college sponsored list.

what else do they look at when determining who wins the scholarships?

well would you rather have 2,500 one time or the money a school will give you for being a NMF? (examples UofA and AsU full tuition, room and board roughly 60 to80k)

Good luck and I hope it works out for you. If none of your colleges are on the sponsored list, I would suggest doing some math. At least one should, unless money is not an issue, but then, why do you need 2500?

opie..what are you talking about? doing some math...?

whichever school i go to, i am going to get a lot of need-based aid. i want the $2500 because i could use it anywhere and it would decrease the amount i have to contribute by working on campus.

3 schools that i applied to are on the list, but they are all far from my first choice.
