Hello! I really want to know if playing a UCLA sport will be in my advantage into getting admitted. I’ve been practicing judo for almost 5 years now. I am 9th grade in Romania, but I want to finish high school in Las Vegas and then go to UCLA on theatre. Thank you!
No one knows if a sport, like judo, will be an advantage. What I do know is that team sports take a lot of time management coordination to manage practices and tournaments with homework and other EC’s.
If you go to Las Vegas for high school, you know that you would not have the advantage of residency. The UC’s prioritize instate residents because the parents pay high taxes that fund the public colleges. There is a cap on admissions for non residents. So, assume that your fees will be at least $60K per year.
UCLA looks at a LOT of applications, you need a very high GPA and SAT/ACT to stand a chance. Extra curricular stuff like a sport helps a little with your essay and as a demonstration of leadership but, it really is stats first at all the UCs. Read about it here.

You can get in if you are a high college prospect recruited by UCLA and meet the GPA requirement for recruited athletes, which is generally lower than the average UCLA student.
