I am an all honors/AP Junior that gets mostly B’s and some A’s in a very competitive high school. I am very involved in school activities and sports, and am shooting for around a 1900 on my SATs. Although I know that I don’t necessarily the best academic record I do have quite a legacy. Two of my aunts graduated from Barnard, and my grandfather was a well known professor at Columbia, and is still somewhat involved with the University.

Please let me know what you think. Thanks!

Of course I am in no way really qualified to assess your "chances", but I would say that you should definitely apply.

ALSO, you should try really hard to earn the very best grades possible...Barnard is, as you know, fairly competitive and they will have many applicants from very competitive schools who earn mostly A's. Also, I am not sure if aunts actually count as a legacy...but it never hurts to talk about your family and their experiences in your essays. Though I think I would advise you to concentrate more on your own experiences and what you have to offer...

Point is, don't count on the legacy thing to really help. Count on your own record and make THAT the best it can be!

Best to you.

Thanks for the encouragement!
