Hi everyone! My top schools right now are currently Wesleyan University and other similar liberal arts colleges. My first semester senior year GPA is currently looking like it will be around a 3.78 uw/4.45 weighted (4 APs and two regular classes with three As, two A-s, and one B+). My junior year GPA was a 4.67 weighted (3 APs and one honors with 6 As and 1 A-). What I’m wondering is if my senior year GPA will harm my chances at schools like Wesleyan? I have several prestigious awards and extracurriculars, and worrying about my GPA is kind of ruining my mental health right now so I just wanted to gain some insight. Thanks so much!!
Take a breath you are doing great!!! You have a rigorous schedule and a great GPA. One B+ is not going to hurt you. Try not to focus so munch on a specific college and make sure you have a well rounded list of places you are applying to
Not at all. No need to worry about that.
Your stats are fine and if it’s not Wed I’m sure others would love to have you. But your schedule and grades are fine.
I am so sorry that a B+ is hard for you, and that your mental health is suffering from the stress of senior year and college applications. If you find your stress level is not manageable, maybe talk to someone. It is not uncommon at all.
Your stress is self-imposed and unnecessary.
You need to expand your list of target schools.
Your academic performance is fine.
A great deal of your stress may may due to short-sightedness. What do you think that getting admitted to that particular LAC will give you that admission to other schools won’t ? My point is that you need to shift your goal beyond college admission to career opportunities; then you should realize that many schools will be able to facilitate your pursuit of that long-term goal.
What are your targets and safeties?
Have you run the NPC on all your colleges with your parents and have they confirmed they can afford the net price at each of them (from current income and savings, not from any loans they’d take for you!)
These two questions matter much more to where you’ll end up in college than whether a near 3.8 senior year is a problem.
To answer your question directly: no, it won’t. You’re doing very well.
Not even a little bit. Congratulations on doing so well! Now treat yourself and write down or read some much needed positive affirmations and even talk to a trusted adult and or counselor. High school kids navigating all the things these past couple of years need to give themselves a lot of credit.
If a few suggestions of somewhat less selective LACs might lessen your concerns, look into Skidmore, Oberlin and Connecticut College, of which two appear in this article that includes Wesleyan: Schools Similar to Brown University — TKG.
