Will my situation be worth the debt?

I don’t know how much your family is able to pay per year. That is very critical in the calculation. It seems you are assuming nothing from them and pay all the after grant/scholarship with loan.

If the student attends UAH, paying the balance with loans, summer earnings, and school-year earnings is highly feasible. Plus, as noted above, Huntsville is an ideal location for finding paid research positions and internships. (In future years, this student may well be able to find paid summer positions that include housing!)

I do not normally recommend “gap” years, but if you cannot find a far more affordable option, then you should not enroll this fall. Way, way, WAY too much debt. If this was MIT, well, it might be worth it. Florida Tech is definitely not worth major debt.

Maybe you can find a better option for winter term, if nothing works out for this fall, and thus avoid a “gap” year by attending summer session in 2015. Just a thought.

:-S

I agree with taking a gap year and reapplying if Uah doesnt come thru, but dont count on getting money for a winter term. the best pkgs go to incoming fall students.

few schools award any merit for starting in terms other than fall.

I hope this still updates because, boy, do I have a doozy for you all.

I have applied to UAH but had a whole deal about the translation of my 9th grade transcript (Argentina). That has been sent by courier. So basically, I’m a week away from the orientation without actually having confirmation of my acceptance or any idea of my financial aid package or loan applications. I’m also freaking out about the vaccines and the early move-in application and -my biggest worry- plane tickets!

I’ve called the office but they haven’t been in the past few days and I don’t understand why they were the only college that had an issue with my 9th grade transcript. The thought of starting classes late and missing out on all the welcome stuff is bringing me down. I knew I’d be against the clock on this but it just seems like they aren’t big on flexible cooperation.

I could use any and all advice on what to do to prep what I can at this point and anything really.

I made this into a new thread as this is more admissions than it is fin aid! http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/college-admissions/1674857-so-i-m-still-applying-for-fall-2014.html?new=1
