Hi, im a junior and I dont think i have a lot of extracurriculars…
I am an NHS and Interact Club member
I am also a right start club member who is responsible for freshman orientation
I do tennis, but im in JV coz i did it freshman year and couldnt do it sophomore year
I do a lot of indian related activites.
I participated in India Day (dance), have performed various times for the Bengali Association of Pittsburgh, perfomed (dance and singing) for my local indian community
I also volunteer at UPMC hospital, since i want to be a doctor
This is not a lot compared to my friends who do a lot of extracurriculars.
So are my chances of getting into a good college hurt?
(4.1 GPA, top 3% of class, 2080 SAT, 32 ACT)
I’m thinking NYU, Pitt etc
Yes and No. Yes – if you literally did nothing except study and/or go shopping, etc. then it will hurt you but it doesn’t seem like that’s the case.
You say you have Indian related activities, so it seems like you have a passion for a certain activity or set of activities, so I think you’re fine. If you can prove a certain level of competence, any leadership, or benefits this has given to the community, even better!
The quality of ECs is more important than the quantity.
And many things or hobbies may not seem like ECs but they may in fact be one!
@GrandBudapest thank you!!! you restored my faith and for hobbies lol im very random once i wrote an online book and it has 15k views so idk if that counts lol
and the problem is the leadership… i dont think i have any display of leadership
@amethyst2000 A self-published book certainly seems like it would have taken lots of time and dedication.
And leadership doesn’t have to specifically mean an officer position. Have you taken charge in anyway? And even if not, you can still show how you’ve helped benefit others through this, or if you’re a great dancer that shows your commitment and skill.
It seems like you have a decent amount of ECs. No need to overload yourself with things you aren’t passionate about / to the point that you’re so stressed out
@GrandBudapest it did take a while to write, yeah…
and i guess the orientationing shows leadership since i took control of the freshies and helped them around
thanks again, it means a lot to me that you took time out of your life and commented!
