So I'm a hs senior and Syracuse is one of the schools I'm considering. I'm pretty interested but recently I've heard from a bunch of people that greek life is huge, and if you don't join a sorority it's very cliquey and hard to meet people, and that social life would be different. I know i don't want to join a sorority so I'm nervous how that would affect my time there :/ I also haven't gotten the chance to visit yet. any opinions would be greatly appreciated! =]

This is funny. If you go around to at least ten girls at every sorority house on campus, you will get at least 4 of them who said from the beginning that they’ll NEVER join a sorority. Now look where they’re at.

You can’t ever rule out the opportunities of joining greek life or tell yourself you’ll never join because frankly many people (both in fraternities and sororities) have made that decision but did not stick with it once they matriculated at SU.

But to really answer your question, it all depends on how willing you are to make friends at SU and how open-minded and welcoming you position yourself. It’s very easy to make friends and find that close group of people you can do practically everything with. It’s all up to you. Greek life is very heavy on the social scene but it’s not the only scene as their are house parties, bars and other activities on campus (Blockparty, etc.)
