Will one stupid fight that occurred during the beginning of my freshman year affectme

this happened freshman year.
i have a great gpa. 3.64/4.0
rank 25/156

me and the guy are on good terms now.
I'm looking at rutgers, NJIT, and montclair for chemistry.

i was first given in school suspension and then suspended for the next day.
this is senior year..nothing has ever happened like that again.

will they just overlook that? I mean comon, I was 13 then and i am 16 now..

stop worrying about things you can’t control regardless or not it’ll affect you.

Colleges will not overlook it but they will consider if you’ve stayed out of trouble since. And your GC recommendation will be important.

better yet, write your essay about it, like the hatred/passion you had and pass it off as you trying to stand up for something u believed in, and now u have grown and see that you can resolve conflicts in a more diplomatic manner

I don’t think you should write your main essay about this incident. Doing so would attach inappropriate importance to it. You could write a paragraph somewhere with the info you posted here… it was a one-time event, never repeated, and you’re on good terms with the other party now.

^^
I agree with greenblue. This is not what the essay is supposed to be about. Talk to your GC to get an idea of how to best handle this situation. My intuition is that it is not going to matter.

Many colleges provide a space for a student to explain any disciplinary problem and what they learned from it. Think over your answer carefully. Unless you put a crippled nun into the hospital, I think one 9th grade fight wouldn’t mean much.
