Will staying in Houston be beneficial fro Petroleum Engg Grads?

Hi,
I just completed my Masters in Petroleum Engineering from Heriot Watt University,Dubai. I did my undergrad in Mechanical Engineering in India. I have very good academic scores in both my degrees.I have 0 work exp as of now. I am looking out for employment opportunities worldwide currently. So far, haven't had any real positive developments yet. My area of interest is specifically drilling and exploration of Oil and Gas.

I am thinking about coming and doing a management course or some other course related to the petroleum industry in Houston. I figured that staying in Houston would give me an advantage cause all the Oil companies are based there.

Could you please tell me if this is advisable. How are the employment opportunities currently in the Industry? I basically need an entry into the Industry.. even if it's in the form of internships.... that's alright.

Thanks a lot for your help.

Being available in Houston for interviews and meetings would help when looking for a job in the oil and gas industry. Conducting a job search from overseas is definitely more challenging. The market for petroleum engineers in Houston, even those coming straight out of school, is quite good. Many fresh graduates are recruited through formal recruiting processes on campus, so taking a class or two at one of the local universities might help get you access to those interviews. Before you register for any class, ask whether your status will give you access to campus recruiting and interviews. The Univ of Houston main campus might be a relatively affordable school to consider. Also, consider whether your visa status would allow you to take a job.
