Will taking Mandarin at the juinor college significant help?

Hey everyone! So here is my dilemna, I am currently signed up to take Spanish at the juinor college for the fall semester. Over the summer I went to China through CTY and we were taught really basic mandarin while we were there and I got really interested in it, and now I am really eager to learn more mandarin. However the junior college near me only offers conversational mandarin so in order for me to continue with it in college I would have to basically start over (since, at least as far as I can tell in college they teach you reading and writing in addition to speaking) and taking it at the junior college would kind of be a waste of my time. However, I feel like just saying the trip inspired me to learn mandarin wouldn't be very convincing to colleges, and if I did actually take mandarin at the junior college, universities might look favorably upon that in the admission process. So I guess my question is would taking it at the junior college actually help my chances of admission or would it be a total waste of time?

Oh and if it matters I am not the least bit chinese or any other type of asain. I am completely white haha.

If your white, and you went to a trip to China via CTY, and it has inspired you to learn mandarin, I personally would it in a positive light that you've turn this interest and made it into something you are really passionate about. What shows more passion than continuing your interest in Mandarin by diving into mandarin courses?

Its a great plus if you can TELL them (they might not see it right away), explicitly say how your trip was, and how you felt afterwards. It is a plus given that your not asian, but white trying to learn this difficult language. :-)

Good luck!

Thanks for the advice!
