So I’ve made the mistake of not taking an active duty in applying for/looking at colleges. Today I was looking at some of schools I would like to go to and MIT in particular caught my attention with their testing requirements. They say that for Early Action (which my mother claims to be the best time to apply), tests taken before November 30 will be accounted for and considered. The only problem is I’ve already signed up for the normal SAT test for October 1 and I really want to take the Korean subject test, and it’s only offered in November. Does anyone know for certain if it would be okay to take the subject tests in November and have them sent directly to the schools; no just for MIT, as I’ve seen a lot of colleges have this same deadline.
Also, as an aside, what are your personal opinions on the ACT vs SAT 2? I’ve only taken the SAT 2 once and gotten a 1400 on it, but I’ve never taken the ACT. Not really sure if it’s worth to try and superscore or just take my chances with the ACT.
You can still take exams in November and apply early to MIT. At the testing center, when you’re filling out the scantron, there will be a place to fill in MIT’s testing code, and ETS will just send your score over.
For many schools, applying early gives the applicant an edge, but I don’t think that’s true for MIT. If I recall correctly, their EA acceptance rate is roughly the same as their RD acceptance rate. Regardless, you should submit your application whenever you feel like it’s the strongest.
And to your aside, did you confuse the SAT II and the SAT? If so, you should take a practice test of each, and see which one you do better on. Study for the one you do better on.
What do you mean by getting 1400 from SAT2? No one add up the SAT2 scores from different subjects and 800 is the full score for each.
It is of course better to apply EA if possible. You should look at MITs site and it will say which subject tests they require. Pretty sure they will require two or even three, one of which must be a math or physics test, but I don’t know. They will also state if the ACT can be submitted instead of SAT subject tests. None of us knows off the top of our heads what they require. Usually, as long as the rest of the app is submitted by the EA deadline, other things can be submitted later. Call their AO and ask.
If they accept ACT and no subject test, you had better get moving.
