I'm applying to some of the most competitive schools, and my rank as of right now is 8 out of 418. Will the adcoms wonder about the people that are ahead of me in rank?

I still have a 4.0 but one of the reasons my GPA is slightly lower is because I moved right before high school and had to start with Spanish 1, whereas others could start in middle school. Therefore, all my Spanish classes were non-honors until this year. Also, I took orchestra, which is not an honors class for freshman and sophomore.

So, will not being 1st or 2nd in my class make a difference?

I'd say you are pretty fine, nothing to worry about. I mean, as long as your hs school is competitive and you've taken a good amount of APs, I wouldn't worry about it at all really.

that's gonna kill you. Harvard and Yale, if you go to their page, accept 89% of top 5 rankers. Lmao.. good luck. Maybe you have a shot for the other Ivies?

When people post these things it makes me laugh. After all, ivies even accept people that are BEYOND the top 10% of their class (though very rare), obviously they would accept people in the top 5% of their class, let alone top 2%
