Will this hurt me?

Well, I was playing football yesterday with some friends and some people that were in college. One person asked me how old I was and I said 15, they were shocked saying that I look like a junior and I said I am one and I explained how I skipped a grade while living abroad. (BTW I don't look 15)

So my question is: When I graduate I will be 17 and won't turn 18 till the May of my freshman year. Will colleges look at this as a bad thing thinking I will be too young and think that I would be too immature for the demanding environment of college?

I'm sorry I just realized I am in the wrong forum. Forgive me =D

My sister was 16 when she applied to college. We think it might have affected her rejection from a top LAC(she was 4.0, 1490/1600SAT, pretty good EC's) but it could have been something else. It probably depends on the college.

What colleges did she apply to?

I agree with abcdegh88, some schools like more mature applicants. Applying at 16 puts you at a slight disadvantage. Colleges will want you to prove that you are mature enough to handle the social aspects of college and that you can live on your own.

Did you skip a grade in elementary school/middle school/high school? If you started off (like 1st or 2nd grade) earlier than it's better than skipping later on.

I don't know let see your stats

I am currently a Junior and I am counting on myself on getting straight A's and I have dropped a huge time commitment to help me do this.

GPA: 3.57 (After Junior Year)
Rank: 5% out of 476+
SAT: 750 M, 730 CR 740 W (Based on PSAT)

Freshman: 2 Honors classes
Sophomore: 5 Honors classes
Junior: 4 AP's 1 Self study AP (US History, Chem, Calc AB, Eng Comp, Music Theory)
Senior: 5 or 6 AP's (Econ Micro+Macro, Calc BC, Eng Lit, Physics B, maybe Physics C)

Drastic GPA Upward Trend

EC's

Community Service and leadership
-I am a soon-to-be Eagle Scout which includes a ridiculous amount of community service
-My father is extremely active in the Indian community and does a lot of fund raisers with various organizations and politically he is known because of this and I tag along with him. So some organizations that I help with are:
-Ekal Vidayala (Makes schools in tribal villages for $365 [nonprofit]) I am leading a small fundraiser that is projected to raise $3000+. Most of these fundraisers bring in over $100,000 but I am doing a smaller scale one.
-Leader in my Temple Youth Group
-Representing youth organizations in different religious conferences
-This year I am going to start a major fund raising event to help raise awareness about the genocide in Darfur. I am hoping to raise around $1000
-I started a fundraiser earlier in my freshman year for the Tsunami Recovery raising $2000.
-In progress of re-making the website for the Marching Band (Volunteer)

School Related
-FBLA member (11th, 12th)
-Key Club - Leadership Role (11th, 12th)
-Student Council - Leadership Role (Running for class president) (11th 12th)

*And also I play a lot of music, a lot of it. I am not sure if this helps at all, but I mean I record my own music and make Electronica using synthesizers along with my own home studio which is self funded. I play the Saxophone, Sitar, Tabla, Guitar, Drums, and I can get by on basic theory on Piano. I was offered a record deal but turned it down for reasons I will not post.

Schools:
1.)U Michigan
2.)NYU
3.)PSU
4.)UCB
5.)Pitt
6.)UVA
7.)U Maryland
8.)Drexel
9.)Temple

BTW: I skipped 1st grade in France, not because of intelligence or anything. Just because I didn't speak French and there were no kids that spoke English in first grade so they moved me up to 2nd.

bump for then night

You think 17 is a problem???

I'm a junior and I'm 15.

Ummm if you read the entire post you would know that I am 15 too and I am a junior... and don't turn 16 until May

Bump =D 10char

No way in hell.

It shouldn't be a problem...I had a friend who just graduated at 16 and she got accepted to all the schools she applied to. I think it just depends on the school.

I'll be 17 when I graduate as well and I won't turn 18 until the September of my freshman year in college. Again, it just depends.

No, I don't think it will hurt you. You have demonstrated maturity already beyond your years. Good luck!

Well another important question is, will it help? =D
