In the application brochure, it says that Harvard recommend applicants to submit their common app and supplement by Dec. 15 for RD. Does it hurt my chance if I submitted right before Jan. 1st?

Also, another stats question... what % of EAers are accepted? How many apply EA and RD?

Don't forget that the EA pool is generally statistically very highly qualified compared to the regular pool. The difference in acceptance rates mostly results from this, and not from a lower standard that they apply to the earlier pool. A difference probably exists, (and Byerly and others on this thread have statistics that support it), but not nearly the one you'd come to expect from the difference in acceptance rates.

Consider the significant number of people each year who are deferred EA, but are then accepted RD. If it were easier to get in EA, wouldn't you expect people that didn't get in the early round to have no chance in the more difficult regular round?

As I said, there is a difference, but it's unlikely that if they wouldn't accept you RD, they'd accept you EA.
