Will three Bs on senior midterm reports destroy my chances of getting into Vanderbilt?

So senior year has definitely been the hardest year so far! I’m taking three AP classes (which to some isn’t that much but my school only lets us take up to two…I had to get special permission), as well as Honors (AP curriculum) Physics.

Im making a B- in AP calc AB, a B+ in Honors Physics, and a B+ in AP Lang.

Will these grades destroy my chances of getting into Vanderbilt ED2?

I was deferred from Harvard which was disappointing, but I think it may give some perspective.

Ive never had such bad grades, and I know I can get them up, but applying to schools and studying, and all the club activities are a lot to handle.

@jameskm You have company. My son has one B in his first three years of HS. He is taking AP Calc AB, AP Physics C, AP Macro Eco, AP Spanish, along with English and Band. He has two B’s and two A’s in the Ap and a C in regular college english !. As i told my son, just put your head down and keep working, it will all sort out. Good Luck+

@kyledad Thanks for the vote of confidence. According to my AP Lang teacher I did extremely well on my midterm so I might finish with an A after all––still not sure though. Many people argue that Junior year is the most stressful, but I beg to differ. I just can’t wait to hear back from all my schools and take a deep exhale. It’s hard to focus on school when you’re thinking about college decisions. I wish your son good luck! Is your son a senior? If so, what is he thinking college wise? He sounds really smart so I’m assuming some Ivies?

@jameskm Senior. He is a solid student. Scored a 33 on his ACT, one seating. 3.87/4.0 UW 4.07/4.0 W. Multiple sports, team captain, all state saxophone. He is a bit shy of Ivies but he would not of chosen one anyway. He was next one up to be recruited at Bucknell D1 baseball, just fell short. He is going for engineering and has already gotten into some good ones, but has a bunch more along the lines of Vandy. He may get shut out the rest of the way but you never know. Keep plugging, you got this.

@kyledad Wow! He sounds very accomplished! I did horrible on the ACT but scored a 1540 superscore on the SAT. I don’t really count a superscore as a real score though. I totally agree about the Ivies. I only applied to Harvard because why not? and I also applied to Brown because I liked their open curriculum. Vanderbilt is still my number one though with Duke as a close second. Those are all my reaches and I highly doubt I’ll get into any of them if I’m being honest with myself, hahaha. We’ll see though. I did apply rolling to Alabama which is financially probably the best option as of now (mainly cause its basically free haha). I applied for the Army ROTC scholarship at Vandy so hopefully if that all works out cost won’t be an issue. Either way, good luck to your son. He sounds like an awesome student with lots of potential to do great things!
