I’ve seen the news about the massive in-state tuition hike for UC schools. Does anyone know how out-of-state tuition fees will be affected? They can’t raise it 33% too right… right…?

Probably not 33% because the base number is much bigger.

However, since OOS students pay for both OOS fee **AND **the OOS tuition, there will be an increase since that OOS fee is going up. Whether the OOS tuition will go up, that remains to be seen. I don’t think that has been determined yet.

UCLA’s website says that the non-resident fee will increase by $1,458 for 2010 school year. Please note: University fees for the 2010-11 academic year will rise by $1,344 for California residents, and by 1,458 for nonresidents. http://www.admissions.ucla.edu/prospect/budget.htm

My son is a current OOS student at UCI. We got the letter about the tuition increase, however his actual increase was $23 this quarter(winter) vs last quarter (fall). His grant level was increased almost as much as the increase. It is income dependent. Only those with family incomes of $120,000 and up receive the full amount of the increase. $70,000-120,000 about half and those under $70,000 maybe none of the increase. So it is hard to say. But you would think they wouldn’t stick the out of staters. We are already paying so much more than California students. They need us.
