Okay, so yesterday was literally the best day of my life because I got admitted off the waitlist for UCLA!
However, today, when I looked at my admissions contract, I saw that in order to maintain my admission, I will need to receive at least straight 5’s on my IB exams. Frankly, I’m really bad at Physics, and because I am taking Physics HL, I don’t know if I will be able to receive a 5 or not on my IB exam. IM FREAKING OUT RIGHT NOW THOUGH CAUSE I REALLY WANT TO GO TO UCLA BUT IM TERRIFIED THAT THEY’RE GOING TO RESCIND MY OFFER OF ADMISSION…
The contract says what you have to do, there is no other choice. Try your best on the test, if you dont get 5, inform them and see what you can do at that time. In the worst scenario, go to a local college and transfer later.
@magopieces It basically states that you need to remain a B average. Also, if you are taking external exams (ie. IB, A-level exams) that external exams take precedence over internal exams. So, because I am an IB student, to maintain admission I need to receive at least a 5 out of 7 on each individual exam, in addition to the school GPA. Also, you have to submit all documents before the deadlines, which is July 1st for school transcripts and July 15th for external marks (ie. SAT, AP, IB).
Also, I believe that if you receive a C or a 4 on any IB exams, you need to contact UCLA Admissions ASAP (I think this is because if you cannot explain why, your admission is at risk of being rescinded).
Sorry, this may be incomplete as I wrote it off of my memory. Also, its more so intended towards IB, as I paid more attention to the IB parts as I am an IB student and thats what applied to me.
I was born in the US, but I grew up in Canada and was educated in Canada. I think because I was born in the US though, I am still considered an OOS applicant, just one that was educated out of the US.
@lostinlife2021 no, but internationals are under a different condition. If you were educated in canada (and applied in canada), then you are technically an international student. IB testing does not matter if you are a domestic student, and neither do APs. If you are international with the IB program, then the tests do matter.
@ANormalSeniorGuy Really? I didn’t know that… I assumed I was considered a domestic applicant as I paid the UC domestic application fee and all the other UCs I applied and was accepted to (UCD, UCI, UCSD, Cal) all did not require specific IB marks…
@lostinlife2021 well it depends, idk your situation. all I know is straight 5’s is well above passing, so that number does not make sense. Did you send a canadian hs transcript? if so then you are international.
@ANormalSeniorGuy I did send a Canadian HS transcript as I was educated in Canada & will be graduating from a Canadian high school. Again, despite the fact that I was educated in the US, I think I am still considered a domestic OOS applicant as I am an American citizen, listed my citizenship as American and paid the Domestic UC application fee…
