Will volunteering and clubs suffice for not doing sports?

Hello!

I'm applying to schools this year. Right now i'm looking at USC, UMD, LSU, UCSB and Penn State. My grades are alright, but the problem is my EC's. I didn't do any sports. I tried to do track and cross country, but i'm just not interested.

Will lots of volunteering/community service and clubs suffice at these schools for not doing sports?

My EC's so far

-Young Republicans Club
-Yearbook
-Multicultural Club
-Over 150+ hours of community service
-Volunteering at a Food Bank
-Volunteering for Young Republicans Club
-Working Fast Food

My D also does not have any sport, but she has years of music instruments and orchestra instead. You know sports is not for everyone.

For the schools you are looking to go to, I’d say your ECs are above average. If you were looking to go to a higher tier school, then unless you had some amazing ecs (1st in AIME, intel, etc) you would need sports.

There is no definite “list” of ECs for any school, nor is there any definite requirement for ECs other than that they simply exist and say something (preferably unique) about you.

tl;dr - Sports are not required, period.

For the schools on your list, USC is the only one that will likely even consider your ECs. Large public schools typically use a formula based on GPA and test scores.

ECs would help with scholarhsip applications, but probably will be irrelevant for admission.
