I am a high school senior looking to buy a new laptop in June. I am asking actual college students what they think.

I had learned that PC tend to not last long as a Mac would. However PC may be more powerful and affordable than Macs.
Taking price out of the equation, what should I get and why?

-Much be 15' or more
-Engineering- I do know the specs require for my schools so any modern laptops would do.

agree with nan1013. you can also flatten it and load any version of linux if you wanted to but Win 8 is MUCH more flexible for engineering tasks unless your one of those creative design types.

Whenever you’re talking about electronics it always comes down to your preference, budget, and needs. As far as quality is concerned, it all depends on what brand you buy. For engineering you would probably be better suited with a PC but if you really wanted a mac then go for it. Before making any purchase do your research. Also keep in mind most places offer student discounts.

Get a 15" MacBook Pro and install boot camp and Windows 8. Works perfectly on my 13" MacBook Pro. The Mac side is perfect for Internet browsing (no viruses), writing papers/PowerPoint (Microsoft Office is a breeze for Mac), pictures/media, and general use. Windows is good for all the programs you will use in Engineering curriculum. You really won’t need a ton of the PC side, unless you plan on only using it for Engineering. A lot of the developers for programs have also launched Mac versions. Honestly I think Mac is better. I have had mine since November and it has been so much easier to use then my Sony Vaio and HP laptop.

Ah the Mac vs PC battle. Great way to start a war.

If you have the money, go for the mac. If you don’t want to spend much, then the windows will work just fine. I suggest the Windows 8 since its the newest version and it boots pretty fast. Core i5 or amd a10, at least 4 GB RAM and at least 320 GB hard drive should do the job.
