girls: even though you’ll see other girls wear this (UGGS + LEGGINGS)…you cant

you absolutely can. anyway, its worth it to not wear ugly pants all year, and leggings are much more comfortable than jeans anyway. try underarmour leggings. and I found my uggs to be much warmer than the hardcore snow boots I got from paragon.

haha well if “people are judging” i wouldnt be caught dead in uggs and leggings…
the thought of me. wearing that. makes me shudder.

there are ways to be warm and chic. that’s definitely not one of them.

uggs and leggings might keep your body from becoming numb, but they’re just about as attractive looking as heavy duty snow boots and a huge down jacket…so you might as well just wear the latter and be cozy. if you’re going to venture out in the cold without proper outerwear in an attempt to be fashionable then there are better ways to do it.

That says more about the fitness of your legs than the actual clothes. Thin toned legs look hot in spandex. I’ve never met a guy who would say otherwise.

I think she meant uggs + leggings, not just leggings.

Anyways I went shopping for Northface stuff this weekend and there were about 20 different jackets to choose from, anyone have any specific recommendations?

i don’t get it. what does me not ever wearing the combination of uggs and leggings have anything to do with the fitness of my legs? all it says is that i’m not a fan of that trend. i assumed you were speaking of people “judging” as people taking into account whether you looked nice and put together, not people judging exactly how toned you’re calves are.

i think thin, toned legs look significantly hotter in shorts, skirts, and minidresses, which i do wear, than in leggings with uggs…and in chilly weather i have absolutely no opposition to tights with flats or heels or a nice pair of boots. i wear tights all the time, just not with uggs.

i just like full foot tights better than leggings, which cut off your leg line at an unflattering point, and uggs make your legs look stumpy and are simply ugly.

I agree with you on the dresses and shorts and intended on wearing them year round. trust me, when its 7 degrees with a windchill of -10, your legs with fall off even with tights. I wear jeans but don’t like wearing them any day, thus the only next option is leggings. I don’t think uggs are the most fashionable items on earth, but when you have to wear snow boots to get to class without getting frostbite or falling on your face by walking on ice in cute heeled boots.

I agree about the legline as well, and when its warm enough I prefer to wear sleeker boots. but in november-february its really not plausible, so you have to go with the next best options.

i would think that uggs are more flattering for girls who DON’T have toned legs, as the effect of those giant eyesores on your feet makes everything else look smaller.

and yes, I too, must agree, after being surrounded by girls in uggs every winter, they are awful from a guy’s perspective.

…LOL. REALLY!? that statement is 1. presumptuous and, beyond all, 2. RUDE. get off of your high horse, please.

anyway, i wore skinny jeans in the winter with leggings/underarmor/tights under them and it was enough for me to ward off the winds. with jeans, you can also pair any type of boots (there are a lot of north face/nike winter boots that are really cute).

Honestly…I think its a bit sad that people judge you for trying ur best to keep warm and not get sick instead of looking stylish all year round. I consider myself a stylish person but when the temperature starts dropping to the negatives! to hell with style lol

well yeah but my point is that if necessary i’d rather wear actual sturdy waterproof snowboots than wear uggs. i just am not fond of that look.

and i think cc102 was just saying that it was “presumptous and rude” that you assumed that because i didnt like uggs with leggings i thus didn’t have nice legs, haha

anyway, with footwear i think i’ll stick to my fryes and rainboots. maybe i’ll buy some snowboots at thanksgiving time if necessary.

sarita, I agree, i’m not so daft as to wear tights in 10 degree weather, haha, but i try to wear them as long as possible. usually i wear 2-3 layers when it gets chilly, but when it gets really cold i go with skinny jeans with footless tights underneath. and fuzzy socks of course.

except your statement wasn’t blunt. it was intentionally rude and targeted towards someone you don’t/didn’t even know and towards a group of people who DON’T dress in a similar fashion as you. furthermore, that last statement? if you don’t want to look at “jiggling thighs”, then don’t look - no one’s forcing you. to be quite honest, if certain people with larger body types want to wear things like that and are confident enough to do so, more power to them. thanks for perpetuating a cruel and unfounded opinion made up by the fashion industry and the media. not everyone is a size 0 and not everyone has to be in order to be considered “pretty”.

and, to tell you the truth, if i’m living in an unrealistic world because i want to be civil and well, just an overall decent human being who doesn’t judge people based on their looks, fine. i’ll continue living in my world, you live in your blindly judgmental world then.

I think people should be more concerned simply about staying warm rather than looking decent. Who cares if a certain type of boot doesn’t look that attractive? It sure beats having frost-bitten feet, or worse, a bad cold during exam week.

Ithaca winters are actually mild to northeast standards, but the weather fluctuates a lot and can still get pretty cold at times. I’ve always hated the cold, despite growing up in upstate NY, so I’m all for bundling up and staying warm.

well i’m not at cornell yet so i’m not completely sure but i think i might be under slightly more pressure to find ways to look decent while staying warm…as an apparel design major i’ll be taking classes with students and teachers who do care about appearances and style more than the average college student, haha. but there are usually ways to stay warm while looking good. then there are the days when there’s just no point in trying =P

I don’t suppose some of you current students could post a link to some good examples of snow boots and rain boots so I have some idea of what you are referring too.

Thanks Chendrix. Those look like some good boots and the woman’s version is even cheaper. :-)

btw. If there are any girls out there looking for a nice winter layer. We ended up with an extra of these jackets somehow. (ordered 2 different sizes and someone forgot to return one of them :-()
