As my name would suggest, I’m an international student coming to Rice this fall. I was going through the housing documents, and I saw that we are supposed to leave campus for winter break? Will alternate housing be available? Flights to my home country costs more than $1000, so that would be a very expensive holiday! I am asking are there going to be any alternate accommodations for students who will find it difficult to go home.
Winter break is close to a month long. The dorms and dining facilities close for winter break, and all of the students have to leave the dorms for that time. You can leave your stuff there while you are gone. Rice does not provide alternate housing. Most students return home, but some others travel in Texas or the US, stay in a hotel, stay with friends, etc.
If you are a member of the Rice University Class of 2023 Facebook group, post your question there and some current students should answer. If you are not a member, search for Rice University Class of 2023 and ask to join the group. The admins will check to see if you are an admitted student and let you in. The group with over 700 members is the legit one. Current Rice students moderate the group and answer questions.
Finding a place to stay in Houston for a few weeks, esp a hotel will not be cheap. You may want to run the numbers, but it will probably be cheaper for you to buy a round trip back home.
