My son needs a new winter coat because he has outgrown his old one. We live in Massachusetts and if he were going to school here, I’d just get a big down coat. Is that going to be overkill? I know it gets cold in Ohio, but is it brutally cold? What does he actually need?
A big down coat (or the equivalent) isn’t overkill, it’s a necessity. Oberlin’s temperature is fairly close to that in Boston. It might be a touch warmer and with a bit less precipitation, but not too different. The last two years has had more than it’s share of truly bitter cold days.
Thank you! I was hoping down would be the right thing. My son hates those 3 in 1 coats because they are so much heavier than a good quality down jacket.
I would get a down winter coat with a hood. Get some warm gloves too.
^^^Thanks. He has the gloves, but has outgrown his jacket. I’m hoping he stops growing soon! At his checkup last summer he was 6’1" and just last week was measured at 6’2".
