So, experienced Elon parents, how cold does it get down there in the winter? A relative wants to buy my Elon D a nice winter coat as a present, but asked me what to get. Is a garden variety NorthFace or Patagonia down jacket the thing?

While the daytime temperatures are usually 10 degrees warmer than Jersey during the day, it can still get pretty darn cold at night. Down to high 20’s sometimes colder.

Those are excellent choices. We live an hour away from Elon. She will definitely need a good coat from late November through early March. Remember they are WALKING to class and even though the campus isn’t huge, it can get pretty chilly early in the morning or late at night.

Northface Denali jackets are everywhere at Elon in the winter. They are perfect. No need for a heavy parka, but a good fleece jacket is good - especially during January term.

It has snowed each of the 3 winters D has been there - but it has been no more than a couple of inches and has melted within a day or two. No need for snow boots, rain boots are fine.
