Withdrawal of class

After drop/add period ends, a "W" appears on your transcript if you drop a class. How much does this affect your transcript and how is it received my med/grad schools?

And does anybody know if Case still has freshman forgiveness? I know last year it was definitely in effect, but I've heard mixed opinions for this year =(

xxDiana,
Freshman can withdraw from a class through the last day of classes without it showing on your Case Transcripts. You can clarify the exact policy with Dean Amon (1st year dean) and discuss what would be appropriate in your case. Withdrawals don't affect your gpa but if they show on AMCAS (med school app) it doesn't look good, espescially if you have mutiple W's. One is probably okay, much more than that probably looks bad. Freshman forgiveness, where freshman who received an F had this removed from the transcripts was stopped at the end of last year. Even though the grade was removed from your Case transcript they still ended up as a No Pass on Amcas. Good luck and be sure to talk to a Dean or your advisor before making any definite decision. Getting a B or in some cases even a C can "look better" than a W and often things can be pretty complicated. Hope everything turns out well.
