withdrawals and course repeats

Hi. I'm currently a sophomore planning to apply to UCLA Med School as well as others Summer 2013. My grades have been pretty good so far (A's with a couple B's), however, I struggled a little my freshman year with trig so I withdrew. I took it again the following summer and ended up with a d (math is not my strong area). I read online that medical schools often average repeat grades but the first grade remains on your transcript for medical admission offices to see. I'm currently retaking the class again and am doing very well. I am confident I can earn a good grade this semester in the class and therefore can hopefully receive a higher averaged grade for my application. I actually more worried about how withdrawals affect application status. Last semester I completely withdrew from one university, moved, and then enrolled at a different university the next semester. This left me with 4 additional w's to my transcript. I am already in the process of repeating the classes I withdrew from and will have replaced all w's by next Fall. I need to know how 5 w's (all repeated with high marks) and 1 repeat (also repeated with high marks) will affect my chances of getting into medical school?

Thanks

If math is not your strong area, how are you likely going to do in chem and physics?

It’ll hurt.

You’ll have to explain why you have so many W’s. Medical schools will question your academic ability unless you have a good reason.

What are all the classes that you’ve taken so far, and what grades have you gotten?

mom2collegekids:
To answer your previous question I plan to do well in Chemistry/Physics by studying hard and excelling at my new university. My previous university was known for lacking in its mathematics education. I am doing much better and understanding more now that I have transferred. Also, General Chemistry I was one of the classes I withdrew from last semester. I was doing fairly well (B average) when I dropped the course (again providing evidence that it is the math department was lacking).

My current transcript is as follows:
In High School I received college credit for the following:
English Composition (B)
College Algebra (B-)
Intro to General Psychology (A)
Intro to Sociology (A)

My freshman year:
Special Topics: Freshman Sem (A)
Concepts Biol Human Concerns (B+)
General Biology I (B)
General Biology II (A-)
Principles of Speech (A)
Principles of Microeconomics (B)
Critical Reading and Writing (A)
Foundations of Europe (A)
Trigonometry (D) (Currently Retaking)
Intro to American Government (B)
Intro to Multi-Ethnic Studies (A)
Introduction to Social Work (A)

I am currently enrolled in:
U.S. History and Culture
Appreciation of Drama (replacing a “w”)
Introduction to Music (replacing a “w”)
Trigonometry (replacing low grade and previous “w”)
Elementary Spanish I

*I also volunteer four hours a week in the emergency room at our local hospital, work part time doing secretarial work for a social work agency, am involved in a research project dealing with developmental biology, plan on attending UCLA’s PREP program for pre med students, and am a member of 3 student organizations (pre med society, Idaho condor humanitarian club, and student social work association)

I also forgot to mention earlier that my major is social work with an emphasis in pre medical studies (I will be receiving a well-rounded education!)

My reason for withdrawing was due to a death in the family. After I withdrew I took a long hard look at the education I was receiving and realized I would be better off transferring to the University I am currently attending.

So sorry to hear about the death in your family.

Are you currently at a CC?

What school are you transferring to?

I transferred from Boise State University to Idaho State University. I started here the beginning of the month.
