Withdrawing for a semester, but returning later in the year?

Hi there,

I’m currently an undergrad student studying for winter term finals, and time’s almost up. I was just wondering what the logistics are for withdrawing from spring term, moving off campus, etc.

I am going to be living with a friend in the city while looking for a job and a place of my own. (I have everything for the part after leaving college sorted out, just not the actual leaving college part.) I am deciding to stop education for the time being due to mental health issues having gotten worse since joining. Also, I would simply like to get myself financially on my feet again.

However, I would like to return to my university, as it is my preferred college and I know for certain I want a higher education. I’d just like to do it after I get my shit together, because then I will be mentally stable (or at least prepared) for education again.

My main questions are:
-How do you find out who your advisor is? I never met mine and don’t know what resources to use to find them.
-What are the logistics of withdrawing next term? (e.g. who do I talk to, how does it affect tuition/GPA/etc.)
-If I withdraw for, say, a semester, can I return later? How will this affect my transcript?
-How does one get their transcript, official or unofficial?
-If I’m failing a course right now, can I retake it/continue it in the future? How will this affect my transcript? (I’m failing French, which isn’t relevant to my major but I’d just like to continue it when I return.)

If someone could answer as soon as possible that’d be lovely, as spring term begins in a few weeks. I’m just a bit lost and need some advice from people who have gone through this before, or at least someone who has more of an understanding of college life.

Thanks y’all!

The only people who can answer your questions are at your college.
