My D told me about this on saturday (I thought it was an urban legend)and I was looking for a link for the story. thanks

It was a really grimmy thing to do. I wonder if the schools will press charges to recoup all of the financial aid or other monies she has been given.

That story is really confusing. The article mentions she took the GED (which is for grad school). Under which name did the person go to undergrad?

By stealing her identity, did she use her high school grades too? Confusing...

she took a GED- General equivalency diploma

For grad school, the test is the GRE (graduate record exam)

Hahahahaha. Wow.

She's a soviet spy. I'm calling it.

LoL, stupid me. Thanks for the clarification.

Really bizarre story--it definitely sounds like something out of a Tom Clancy novel.

It is ironic that a person with an assumed identity can get into Harvard which is supposed to be a reach school even for a person with a genuine identity and stellar credentials! There is something fishy there. I wonder if Harvard received a 'large donation' from the sponsoring country if she indeed was a spy.

Yeah, I'm still trying to figure out how somebody who failed out of highschool and then took the GED got admitted to Harvard and Columbia. She must be a hell of a good essay writer ;).

she can be very smart but just not interested in the high school education. High school can be very boring and thus very difficult to attend for someone with a high IQ.

I left high school midway of junior year...i am at ucla now, and its not b/c i am a good essay writer.

The article even says she has a very high iq.

Yeah and I still wonder like if she went to another school in between them, or what. I don't generally think of people putting their IQ scores on college apps, so.

well that was why she stole the identity, to apply to take the GED and SAT and then applied to harvard and columbia.

You know i was watching a tv show about a guy who applied to princeton under a false identity and was admitted....he got caught at a track meet because a girl from stanford where he previously attended recognized him...moral is - Psychopaths are deadly smart.

I love this person. Good for them.

I thought this story was pretty cool at first, but then I heard the whole spy aspect.
That's just stupid.

ohh miss zanna: the police were the ones who suggested that she may be a spy, as per the cited article. Maybe that idea is a little far-fetched, but this girl really doesn't want to be found. Who keeps disappearing like that unless they've got something pretty serious to hide/hide from?

inspiring....jk

lol the ivies will let soviet spies in before they let perfect score asians in. Go figure.

well it does make for one heck of an essay!
