Hello, all. I’m a junior in HS right now, and have been giving thought to what I want to major in. I am set on Philosophy, but my AP classes this and next year would give me plenty of room for a second major. My first-choice (Mary Washington) has a major in Women’s and Gender Studies, which I seem to like because it has courses from lots of subjects, so I could do many disciplines at once. I was wondering if there was anyone who has taken WGS courses or is a major that could give me their opinion and tips on it. Thanks
Maybe I’m being a bit negative, but if it was me I would pick a more marketable major to add to philosophy.
If I wasn’t going into WGS, I would go towards Sociology or English as a second major, since I want to stay in the humanities/social sciences
Honestly, you have plenty of time to decide. Get on a college campus, sample some classes your freshman year, then see what you like and decide then.
There’s someone in my division with a major in women’s and gender studies; she works as a producer on a popular video game franchise. I have coworkers with all sorts of social sciences and humanities majors.
In any case, I agree with the above. You have plenty of time to decide; you’ll be better equipped to make the choice once you have taken a few courses.
